Brief Summary of Unit: The students will utilize a variety of technological methods to enchance their effective reading strategies in language arts .
Students will Understand: The student will understand the reading strategies: What looks right , What sounds right , What makes sense ? The student will understand how to apply these reading strategies when reading different books.

Students will read at increasing levels of complexity for various purposes.
Students will use critical listening and viewing skills in various situations and for a variety of purposes.
Students will speak effectively in a variety of formal and informal situations.

Indicator:Students will use various reading cues / strategies to interpret and comprehend text,e.g.,context, semantic, syntactic, and graphophonic cues.
Benchmark(s):Use knowledge of word parts to determine meaning of unknown or unfamilar words within a passage , e.g., prefixes, suffixes , and root words , chunking , making words, guided reading lessons.

Select appropriate strategies / rate of reading for different purposes , e.g., fiction for enjoyment , non fiction for information.

Use appropriate context and semantis clues to construct meaning from text.
Other Content Standards:Use the appropriate structure and sequence to best express ideas and convey information.

Key Knowledge and Skills Students will Acquire: The students will utilize various technological methods to become effective readers when using the strategies at hand.
Assessment Plan: The students will be assessed by a personal strategy review log , Strategy Scoring Guide , Teacher Observation, reports , skits , participation and interaction , oral reading , buddy reading ,literature circles etc.
Learning Activities: The students will be able to produce effective reading strategies through a variety of activities that will increase their reading comprenhension such as :I wonder Questions,A cloze poem activity, Strategy card templates, prediciting letters and words,Strategy poem, Strategy reflections.In the bag,Readers theater,Making words,Little words in big words etc.
Notes:This unit will create an opportunity for the student to be able to become a more effective reader when using the effective reading strategies taught especially in the field of comprehension.
